WHAT WE DO
G.R.A.S.P. helps individuals who are transitioning out of incarceration or rehabilitation facilities by offering resources such as housing needed to successfully re-enter the community. By supplying financial aid for safe housing through partnerships with approved accountable re-entry programs,G.R.A.S.P. not only sponsors those in need with shelter in these homes to avoid the risks of recidivism or relapse, but provides essentials such as food, clothing, transportation, and professional development help and more to empower these individuals.
G.R.A.S.P. is specifically committed to aiding those who seek recovery from alcohol and drug addiction, and offers guidance, mentorship, resources, recovery support, and professional health services to qualifying individuals residing in the accountable reentry programs. G.R.A.S.P.’s goal is that the support it supplies will empower individuals enough to stay on their road to recovery, and lead to become productive members of society and individuals will not regress to old environments and habits due to lack of access to accountable reentry programs housing, basic needs, or health services during their transitional period.
G.R.A.S.P. was developed due to the limited re-entry services provided to individuals in need by government aid and other private organizations. G.R.A.S.P. works to make sure that the accountable re-entry programs are available and accessible to anyone in need that does not have access or qualify for government aid, or perhaps cannot afford private organizations, and offers its services to those in need regardless of age, race, sex or gender.
Last year, G.R.A.S.P. sponsored 382 clients seeking accountable reentry programs and aid in their time of transition from an institute. These individuals were all either incarcerated, in rehabilitation treatment or detox and in need of help reentering society. They needed the health services, shelter, and resources that G.R.A.S.P. was able to offer to improve their situations. Due to the rising need in this type of social work, G.R.A.S.P. has expanded its case management by volunteering to counsel individuals in need before they exit respective institutes so that a plan is in place and recidivism, or homelessness can be deterred. All housing facilities that G.R.A.S.P. works with are accountable sober living establishments, with procedures in place to assure that substance abuse protocols are followed. G.R.A.S.P. strives to give hope to these individuals and has (recently) expanded its outreach to work with released inmates to secure long-term housing by providing support and mentorship with planning and financial aid.
G.R.A.S.P. works with the Sarasota County Jail and Sarasota County Drug Court, rehabilitation Centers and Dept. of Corrections to connect individuals in need of sober living facilities and support with the accountable housing facilities it supports. G.R.A.S.P. then works with these individuals to provide aid throughout the entire process.
