WHO WE ARE

G.R.A.S.P. is a nonprofit organization dedicated to supporting individuals recovering from drug and alcohol addiction, focusing on meaningful recovery rather than temporary solutions. The organization provides vulnerable clients with accountable re-entry programs, filling critical gaps left by government and private services.

At its core, G.R.A.S.P. helps clients rebuild their lives by funding rent at vetted transitional living facilities. It carefully avoids landlords who prioritize profit over safety and recovery. These safe housing opportunities offer a stable environment, shielding clients from the triggers of old habits and harmful influences that could derail their progress.

But G.R.A.S.P.’s mission goes far beyond housing. The organization ensures clients can access essential resources like bicycles for transportation, food, and clothing, empowering them to create a foundation for sustainable, healthy living. To enhance safety, all supported transitional houses are equipped with Narcan, a life-saving tool for overdose emergencies, and the organization helps connect clients to professional counseling and healthcare services to address their broader needs.

Accountability is a cornerstone of G.R.A.S.P.’s work. The organization uses data-driven insights to evaluate its housing partners’ safety and success rates, identifying patterns that support long term recovery. This evidence-based approach ensures that clients are placed in environments where they can thrive.

Collaborating with key community partners, including the Sarasota County Sheriff’s Office, Lightshare Wellness, and The Salvation Army, G.R.A.S.P. alleviates strain on these overburdened organizations. It also works directly with clients before their release from jail, treatment programs, or detox facilities to create tailored recovery plans.

G.R.A.S.P. has seen community needs rise by 25% and anticipates additional funding requests to increase as it sustains and expands its services to meet the growing demand. Recognizing this, the organization remains committed to providing housing assistance and broadening its outreach to recently released prisoners who require longer-term housing solutions.

“With additional funding, we aim to help more people battling addiction and mental health challenges find a safe path to recovery,” said John Patrick Harrison, co-founder and Director of Client Services for G.R.A.S.P. Inc. “While we are eager to expand our services and strengthen our network of support, the heart of our mission will, always be ensuring access to safe, vetted transitional housing for those in need.”

Through compassion, accountability, and collaboration, G.R.A.S.P. offers hope and a lifeline to individuals seeking a second chance at life.
